Most people outside Cyprus have met one flavour of loukoumi: rose. On the island there are more than a dozen, and regulars have firm opinions about which is best. This guide walks through every flavour we stock, what it tastes like, and who it suits, so you can order with confidence.

Rose

Made with rosewater, pale pink, floral and gentle. This is the flavour of hospitality in Cyprus, served with coffee when guests arrive. Start with the traditional rose loukoumi, or for a gift choose the rose and almond box from Geroskipou.

Bergamot

Bergamot is the perfumed citrus that scents Earl Grey tea. In loukoumi it is fragrant, slightly bitter at the edges and far less sugary on the palate than rose. Plain Traditional

Citrus

Lemon and Orange

Bright, clean and refreshing. Citrus flavours cut through the sweetness, which makes them a good choice for people who find rose too floral. Try the lemon loukoumi or the orange loukoumi in its hexagonal gift box.

With Nuts

Almond

Roasted almonds are the traditional Cypriot addition. They bring crunch and a toasty note that balances the soft sweetness. You will find them in both the rose and bergamot boxes from Geroskipou.

Pistachio

Richer and more buttery than almond. The pistachio loukoumi is studded with whole nuts.

Coconut

Mastic

Mastic, or mastiha, is a natural resin from the Greek island of Chios. Its flavour is hard to compare to anything else: fresh, slightly piney, cooling. Carob

The most Cypriot flavour of all. Carob syrup gives a deep brown colour and a taste somewhere between caramel, malt and dark chocolate. Choose from Amalia carob loukoumi, the 250 g carob box or loukoumi with carob syrup.

Larnaca Style

Lizon Loukoumi Skaliotiko comes from Larnaca, whose old quarter is known as Scala. It is a good pick if you want to compare the style of another Cypriot town with Geroskipou.

Modern, colourful and popular with children. Choose from mixed fruit, forest fruits, banana, apple and pear, or watermelon and honeymelon.

Something Different

• Sugar free loukoumi. Made with sweeteners instead of sugar, for anyone cutting down.

How Much to Order

A 250 g box holds roughly fifteen to twenty pieces, which is right for one household to enjoy with coffee over a week or two. The 600 g Geroskipou boxes are made for sharing and gifting. Loukoumi keeps for months in a cool, dry cupboard, and because it is light, adding a few extra boxes to an order makes very little difference to the postage.
